If you are still in the job search race, here’s five strategies that just might help inch you closer to the finish line. Four of the five strategies will serve as reminders as you have heard them numerous times in class, from PRSSA speakers and at conferences. However, if you have been diligently employing these strategies and still haven’t landed a job, take a closer look at strategy #3 – showcasing your skills and capabilities in a visual way. This could be the one strategy to kick your resume up a notch and land you an interview.
In the past year, through conferences and other professional discussions, you have heard a lot about bringing the art of “storytelling” back into public relations. As professionals, you tell your clients’ stories, so why not take the same advice you will be sharing with future clients and create your own story for prospective employers? Instead of just telling them what you can bring to the table, why not show them? Put your creative, tech-savvy skills to work and create a visual autobiography!
Be sure to keep me updated on your professional achievements. I am always looking for guest speakers for class and PRSSA meetings. Students always like hearing from alumni who, not so long ago, were sitting right where they are now. So, be sure to stay connected with your alma mater!
In the meantime, pull up a chair and let’s talk!
