Dan Schmidt, a speech communication major with a public relations emphasis, may get laughs when he’s on stage, but as a student he’s taking every professional development opportunity presented to him seriously.
Schmidt is applying the skills he’s learning as a public relations professional to his current job as a stand-up comedian. Not only is he using his writing, blogging and other class assignments in ways to promote his comedy career, he’s also using the networking and professional development opportunities available to him while pursuing his degree.
Schmidt attended the PR professional panels while in SPC 213 and is a member of PRSSA where he has attended Chapter workshops, participated in public relations agency tours and spearheaded a successful fundraiser for PRSSA at Comedy Etc. II in Fairview Heights last November.
Last week, Schmidt was the topic of a feature story printed in the Alestle. If you didn’t get a copy, you can read it online.
Schmidt shows you can make your college experience much more than just a letter grade on a transcript. If you want to learn more about the public relations program or how PRSSA membership can help you achieve your professional goals, you can visit the department’s website for more information.
In the meantime…pull up a chair and let’s talk!
